Ekonomik Nokta: Nature’s Spectrum Meets Personal Care
April 10, 2026Moving beyond the boundaries of classic home care and aerosol products and turning its course entirely toward innovative, vegan, nature-inspired personal care, Spectra is getting ready to break the mold in the industry. Shaped by the creative vision of the brand’s Co-Founder and Creative Director Betül Ünver, who guides every stage of the brand from product development to packaging design and from R&D to marketing, the brand stands out with clean ingredients and sustainability goals that speak to conscious consumers, especially Gen Z.
As the beauty and personal care industry transforms with the rise of a return to nature and clean ingredients, a brand-new brand story is being written, reaching from Türkiye to the world. Spectra, whose foundations were laid when Betül Ünver, a graduate of Sabancı University’s Management Sciences program, discovered Europe’s innovative approach to cosmetics during export-focused market research, puts innovation and naturalness at the center of personal care.
Aiming to develop vegan products inspired by nature and carefully formulated in an R&D kitchen, rather than ordinary, low-value-added products, the brand takes its name from the “spectrum” that holds all the colors of light and from the magical world of chemistry.
“Europe Defined Our True Vision”
Recounting Spectra’s origin story and the brand’s transformation, Co-Founder and Creative Director Betül Ünver sums up how they read the market’s needs: “When I first started in 2020, we were almost at zero in the European market. When we entered this market through trade fairs and B2B platforms, our true vision was defined by the rich product variety and high quality standards there. While we encountered more limited examples of innovation in Türkiye and the surrounding region, I saw how broad, creative and open to development personal care is in Europe.
At that moment, I decided we needed to move away from products with limited shelf value and turn to personal care products that offer an innovative perspective, good ingredients and real differentiation. Spectra’s core vision is built on offering what doesn’t yet exist and developing long-lasting products with a sustainable, consistent understanding of quality. The brand’s passion for innovation began with exactly that moment of awareness.”
A Woman Leader in the R&D Kitchen: “We Don’t Just Produce, We Break the Mold”
Personally leading the brand’s R&D processes, Ünver emphasizes that Spectra’s greatest strength is its strong and continuously evolving research and development infrastructure: “For me, the essence of the brand lies in creating good ingredients and being innovative. We move forward not just with academic knowledge, but by getting into the kitchen of the work, testing and refining formulas again and again. R&D is not just a department for us; it is the heart of the brand and what sets its direction.
One of the most tangible examples of this approach is the whipped shower foam. This product category, which is not yet widespread in Türkiye, offers a completely new approach in terms of both formulation and user experience. In every product, we consider an innovative perspective, high ingredient quality and user experience together. The vegan approach we embrace on the ingredient side and the inspiration we draw from nature are among the strongest elements that set us apart from other brands.”
Investing in Gen Z and the Future: Sustainability in Focus
Spectra’s target audience includes conscious consumers who question what they use and know how to read labels, especially Gen Z. Noting that they produce with the transparency to meet the expectations of young people and the mothers of the future, Ünver also underlines her sustainability vision: “Our target is the mothers of the future and today’s Gen Z. They are extremely conscious and very open to clean ingredients. If we launch five new products, at least two of them must be mold-breaking, innovative products. This awareness applies not only to ingredients but also to packaging. One of the most important parts of our vision for the future is to repay our debt to nature by using 30% recycled material in our plastic bottles.”
A Journey That Inspires Young People and Women
Speaking about the importance of being involved, as a woman entrepreneur, in every stage of the cosmetics industry, from the production line to fragrance design, and not just its storefront, Betül Ünver offers the following advice to young people and aspiring entrepreneurs: “It doesn’t matter which department you graduated from; what matters is how you shape your life and your mind. University education is of course incredibly valuable, but success comes from taking that knowledge into the kitchen of the work, doing projects over and over, and becoming one with the job. As a woman, being able to reflect aesthetics, colors and scents in formulas is a great advantage. At the foundation of my leadership approach lies not just selling products, but the real satisfaction the end consumer feels when using the product. The greatest personal motivation behind all my effort is to be a good role model for my son, as an individual who stands on her own feet, produces and pushes boundaries.”
With its innovative R&D work, vegan ingredients and sustainable packaging goals, Spectra is moving forward with confident steps toward becoming the new representative of “good ingredients” and nature-inspired cosmetics, not only in the Turkish market but also on the global stage.
